Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan kondisi kompetensi sumber daya aparatur di Kecamatan Prambanan Kabupaten Sleman. Studi ini menggunakan metode wawancara dan observasi yang kemudian hasilnya digambarkan berdasarkan kerangka dari definisi tentang kompetensi di Undang-undang Nomor 5 Tahun 200 tentang Aparatur Sipil Negara. Hasilnya menunjukan bahwa terdapat permasalahan pada tataran kompetensi teknis dan kompetensi manajerial seperti rendahnya kemampuan pegawai karena minimnya kesempatan untuk mendapat pelatihan dan hampir separuh pegawai masih belum merasakan pendidikan tinggi
