DEPARTMENT OF TRADE COOPERATION AND SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES’ APPARATUS PERFORMANCE IN THE PRESERVATION OF TENUN IKAT IN EAST NUSA TENGGARA PROVINCE

Abstract

“Tenun ikat” (traditional handwoven) of Sikka  is one of the hereditary ancestral cultural heritage in Sikka Regency. However, currently, this tradition is perceived as uninteresting thing by young women of Sikka Regency. Thus if it left unchecked, this ancestral cultural heritage will be extinct. The purpose of this research is to understand the idea of apparatus’ performance of Trade Cooperation and Small and Medium Enterprises Department in preserving “tenun ikat Sikka”. This study is used performance theory according to Dwiyanto which includes 5 dimensions of productivity, service quality, responsivity, responsibility and accountability. The research method used is a descriptive research method with inductive approaches. The results show that preservation of “tenun ikat” is already running but there are still some inhibitory factors. Based on the assessment of performance dimensions according to Dwiyanto there are advantages and disadvantages in the implementation of this “tenun ikat” conservation activities. In addition to efforts from the government, the weavers must have an active participation in this preservation process in order to achieve the preservation goal.
